A little bit about Tim..

Brown was signed up by his parents to play football when he was five years old. “All my friends were playing and I loved it.’’ One of his earliest memories is of his father telling him not to always chase the ball. “I still haven’t learnt not to.’’

Brown went through the American college system at the University of Cincinnati.

He rates the 2-2 draw with Wales, which was his first game as captain, as a highlight in his football career as was qualifying for the World Cup against Bahrain in Wellington in November 2009.

A morning walk and stretch, a pre-game nap and “lots of bananas’’ are part of Brown’s routine before a big game.

Brown’s goal for South Africa is: “To show to everyone around the world that we deserve to be there and perhaps in the process of doing that qualify for the second round.’’

Brown lives in Wellington and has a design degree.

He is an ambassador for the Wellington Life Flight Trust, along with his Wellington Phoenix teammate Ben Sigmund.

Brown’s favourite player is retired Irish footballer and manager Roy Keane, who Brown got to meet once in Wellington recently.

His favourite food is biscuits and his favourite television programme is MacGyver.

Brown went to a small Catholic primary school in the Wellington suburb of Karori called St Teresa’s School.
