A little bit about Rory…
It’s a well known fact that Rory has followed in his father Kevin Fallon’s steps. Kevin Fallon was assistant coach when the All Whites last qualified for the FIFA World Cup in 1982.
“I have been brought up on football,’’ Rory Fallon says. Fallon’s earliest memories of football are of watching his brother train early in the mornings with his father, and he used to kick the ball around with “anyone I could rope into playing’’ when he was a young lad.
Growing up, Fallon loved seeing Maradona and Eric Cantona play but his father was his mentor.
When asked about his career highlights so far, Fallon says the All Whites’ qualifying match against Bahrain has to be it. “That was such an amazing event both for me personally and for New Zealand football. I was proud to be a part of it.
In the UK, I’ve been fortunate enough to have been the record signings for both Swansea City and Plymouth Argyle. Whilst at Swansea, we won the Welsh Cup and we also made it to the League One playoff final in Cardiff where I scored.’’
Fallon says the best preparation for any match is to be mentally ready for it.
He feels it is a blessing to be going to South Africa. “It is the ultimate career highlight for any professional and I would love to be able to get a few goals for New Zealand.’’
Fallon became a Christian a few years ago and he is involved with a charity in Plymouth called Faith and Football. Fallon is married to Carly-Marie. They got married in Central Park, New York, in 2008. They live in Plymouth, England.
Fallon says his family is the most important thing in his life. Outside of football he likes to hang out with his friends, listen to music and play the guitar.
