A little bit about Jeremy…

Christie began playing football when he was about four years old and played for a local club in Whangarei where he grew up.

His grandfather has had a big influence on his life as it was he who first encouraged a young Christie to play football.

But it was Kevin Fallon, Christie’s coach at Mt Albert Grammar School, who made him realise he could turn his love of football into a career.

Fallon was also coach of the New Zealand U-17 squad Christie was in.

Christie rates captaining the U-17 at home during the World Cup in 1999 as a career highlight, along with making his All Whites debut.

Getting the call from Ricki Herbert to say he had made the squad for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa was something he had been holding out hope would happen.

Christie was out with a mate when he got the news. They did a “high five’’ and his friend bought him a steak.

His football training sessions leave him too tired to do much else but he likes to play golf when he can.

Before a big match, Christie tries to stay relaxed and in a “happy place’’ so will have a laugh and a joke around with some of the other guys on the team in the changing room.

His mother is from Liverpool and Christie is a big Liverpool fan with players such as John Barnes, Jamie Redknapp and Steven Gerrard his idols.

His favourite food is home-made pizza, which he has made for some of the guys on the team who say it is so good he could sell it.

His favourite television programmes are Entourage and Family Guy.

Christie is living in Florida, where the FC Tampa Bay Rowdies are based.
